Muntean/Rosenblum work with motifs from our present that are mixed and enable a new, unexpected discourse. Their central subject is the human figure, which is often presented in large-format works and reformulates the themes of the emotions and the relationship of people to themselves and others. Polyphony should be regarded as a term central to their work. It enables a kind of multi-voice effect, a plurality which nevertheless remains individually readable and experienceable. Fragments – in the sense of individual pictorial elements as well as written passages – are continuously re-built and thus undergo reformulation. For the most part, the isolated elements themselves come from magazines and the area of lifestyle. During this process, it is not only whole figures that are selected, but also often only parts of a body or sections of landscape that are re-combined. The painterly effect that additionally defines the works produces a kind of empathy in the viewer, a form of sympathy. This consciously articulated emotional level is part of the whole picture-text concept, which on the one hand, fragments and analyses, and on the other hand, connects things. The effect of the painting, its aura, allows new access, free for personal projection.
