Inés Lombardi’s art praxis consists of producing autonomous pictures and objects as well as staging them. Her art is to be understood as non-static, as a variable system moving along an imaginary loop. At the start of a sequence there is an object, the initiator of a chain reaction; it is photographed from various angles with a camera. Thereafter, the staging of the object/photos takes place in various room situations – in the studio, in the gallery, in the museum. The installations are again photographed and placed in other presentational frameworks.
Once the shift from morphological documentation towards conceptual art system has been initiated, content is anchored to relationships – to the relationship between image and its surroundings; between pictorial space and real space, between objects in relation to each other and their vis-à-vis, the viewer. The neutralisation of the hierarchical is also important; the object, the depiction of the object or the reproduction of the depiction are neither higher nor lower levels of representation but same-value equivalents. Lombardi researches the subjects of perception in space, the place of the visual in an alternating relationship between work-internal references and presentational circumstances. Her method shows us that an object is always what one sees in it and that individual, conscious perception is the catalyst in every system.
