These six pictures are part of Éva Bodnár´s intensive engagement with the phenomena of the the effects of colour in multiple combinations. Usually, colour is combined with form, with ornament, or with bodies. Éva Bodnár liberates herself from this dependence and, by using the scientific method of “striping”, attempts to leave behind the iconographically bound signs which are usually a given. Firstly this enables colouring/colour reactions and rhythm to take effect. In contrast to the well-known character-test pictures, which also use the emotional potential of colour combinations, Éva Bodnár’s mastery of paint forces us to pay attention to the rhythmic qualities of colour combinations predisposed as unappealing (to us). These pictures are a school for seeing in the best sense of the term – a tool to deepen our understanding of the emotional effect of colour.
