The basis of the wallpaper The tallow candle is the artist's small collage from 2015, which is also in the evn collection. In the work, Martina Vacheva transposes a moment from a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen, only discovered in 2012. The large format allows for other perspectives. Thus the figures, miniature in the original, are not only intensified in their eeriness, but also in their whimsicality.

The wallpaper was shown with its counterpart The tallow candle (detail) in the exhibition evn collection: Franz Kapfer / Lazar Lyutakov / Martina Vacheva at SKLAD, Plovdiv (BG), as part of Plovdiv – European Capital of Culture 2019, from September 14 to October 13, 2019, and as part of Wallpaper #3 from December 2019 to September 2020 at the EVN headquarters in Maria Enzersdorf.
