The wallpaper by Denisa Lehocká, one of the most important Slovak artists of her generation, is based on a square drawing. The toned paper is covered with a large number of carefully placed numbers in red ink. Even though numerals, which once came from India and Arabia and revolutionized the European Middle Ages through their practicality, are commonly associated with order and systems, there is nothing of that here. If one thinks of the art history of the 20^th century and artists such as Roman Opałka or Hanne Darboven, the handling of written or drawn numerals is conceptually occupied. Denisa Lehocká, like Darboven and Opałka, is very interested in the process of numbering as an activity, but her way of working is striving more towards the result than processing concepts.Thus in this drawing and in its duplication and enlargement as a wall-sized wallpaper we see the result of a very delicate yet spontaneous compilation. Numbers group and organically coalesce without revealing themselves as anything in particular. Enigmatic cloud formations are perhaps reminiscent of a scientific chart, of a surveying of nature. Seen up close, these formations become something very personal. This has to do with the artist's signature, which conveys authenticity, but also with Denisa Lehocká's ability to create a balance of intimacy and fragility in her works.
