Language plays a big role in Weinberger’s heterogeneous work. Things, ideas, images and words come together and lose touch with each other again. In the cartographic language pictures from the work group Verlauf/Drift, which are reminiscent of relief maps, Weinberger emphasises the arbitrary and transitory nature of any attempt at finalising. In the “maps” of cities, landscapes and residences terms are inserted which have no apparent explanatory function but which seem to be subject to some system. This can come from the “drift” of coincidental associations or dictionary finds. However, there is often a thematic filter in operation. In the case of a plan of the Freud Museum in London, it is examples of terms related to reproduction taken from a botanical lexicon.
